Claude Monet Haystacks paintings consists of 25 paintings and the series is known for its thematic use of repetition to show differences in perception of light across various times of day, seasons, and types of weather. The subjects were painted in fields near Monet’s home in Giverny, France. I did mine in Vancouver, Washington dreaming of painting like a bird sings thanks to this inspirational artist. Daily painting was on my Oil Painting of “The Rose” 16″x20″ and “The Iris Dance” also 16″x20″.  I will be doing studio work on both of these paintings.  For the Iris Dance I am using glazes over white  pelican Ink.  It is permanent with alternate glazes of oil.

Today I worked on the Rose Painting.  I took inspiration on the color notes from Lois Griffel’s Book “The Impressionist Landscape”…I then changed  the shadow color to yellow ochre and Indian Yellow, and scumbled with cerlean Blue.   Then painting yelows without all the white for the highlights and secondary colors.  I like the changes.  Everytime I pick up books on the “color notes” from Lois Griffel, Susan Sarback, or Vicki McMurry’s “Mastering Color” I get wonderful advice on color. I still will put in more studio time on the painting.

I started on the layout for the new CD commission. It is called “TV to Broadway” for Shooting Stars. I painted the canvas Frosty Orange Acrylic and got the two figures and background stage figured out using white this time to create form. I had used black in “Tip Toes”. I am using acrylic for the underpainting to figure out all the details and then use oil glazes over the acrylic. I have found this method effective, especially when there are figures in the painting.
